Initial Situation

Modern emergency services require reliable power and IT systems – even far away from base. Conventional batteries quickly reach their limits: they are heavy, take up space and need to be replaced frequently. SFC Energy’s portable fuel cells deliver reliable energy – mobile, quiet and independent. Together with robust Panasonic TOUGHBOOK devices, they create a scalable solution that keeps emergency services mobile for longer and ensures critical systems are available at all times.

Challenge

Operations often take place in remote regions or over several days. Radio equipment, sensors, C4I systems and notebooks must be operated reliably without generators or running engines jeopardising the mission. Conventional batteries increase weight and logistics costs and can limit operational readiness.

Solution

The portable JENNY 600S and 1200 fuel cells reliably deliver 600 to 1200 Wh per day, are particularly light (from 1.7 kg) and can be easily transported in a rucksack – up to 80% lighter than conventional batteries. In combination with the Power Manager 3G, multiple devices can be charged simultaneously; connected systems are automatically detected and the output voltage is adjusted accordingly. For use in vehicles, the EMILY Fuel Cell ensures that TOUGHBOOK devices and on-board electronics can be operated even when the engine is switched off – virtually silently, with low emissions and reliably.
