Searching for innovative energy solutions for extreme weather conditions, our partner FC Tec has launched a pioneering field trial with the Indian Army to test the use of fuel cells at high altitudes in the Himalayas.
The Himalayas, the highest mountains on earth, with their extreme weather conditions and night-time temperatures of as low as -38 °C, place the highest demands on reliable energy solutions.
“The robustness of the DMFC Fuel Cells and the power solution was established beyond doubt with a continuous run time of over ten days and nights at a stretch.”
Sustainable energy supply in extreme conditions: The SFC EMILY 3000 fuel cell delivered reliable power at 5 570 meters in the Himalayas, even at -38 °C. A 10-day endurance run proved the robustness of the solution for autonomous energy at high altitudes.

In a step-by-step test procedure, the operating altitude of the EMILY 3000 Fuel Cell Solution was successively increased – from 3 350 meters (two days) to 3 810 meters (four days) and up to 5 570 meters. There, the fuel cell delivered reliable and constant power day and night in the open air, even under extreme conditions.
